USE OF THE OPTICAL IMPRESSION IN A FRACTURE CASE
The use of CAD-CAM technology enables us today to find solutions in everyday life that were unthinkable even a few years ago. In this case, the patient had typical symptoms of partial fracture of the lower molar. This required, in addition to endodontic therapy, the use of a zirconia crown with a “cerclage” function for the tooth for long-term maintenance. The advantage offered by CAD-CAM technology is the opportunity of optical preliminary scanning of the element; thus it is possible to digitally «record» the form of the element itself and then reproduce it with very high accuracy.
Optical scanning was performed using the PLANMECA EMERALD scanner, and a 600 MPa Katana zirconium oxide was used for the crown. Special thanks to the dental technician Enrico Ferrarelli.
